Why we're doing this

Every foot has a story.

Healthy feet are the foundation for everything you do.

UNE PhD researcher Christiaan Cumming is working with Sole Mechanics to explore how daily activity, lifestyle and footwear habits relate to foot strength, structure and function.

Whether you sit at a desk, work long shifts on your feet or run every morning, your contribution helps us see the full picture.

Every foot counts

Who can take part?

We want to hear from people of different activity levels and foot types, including feet with pain, bunions, stiffness or past injuries.

You don't need to complete every test. If something is uncomfortable or unsuitable, we'll skip it.

Before an in-person assessment, you'll complete a short pre-exercise health check. In-person testing is not suitable if you're pregnant or have a medical condition that makes exercise testing unsafe.
On the day

What to expect.

Our team will demonstrate each test and give you time to practise. Let us know if anything hurts or doesn't feel right—we'll skip it.

Check in

Meet the team, review consent and complete your pre-exercise health check.

Complete your assessment

We'll guide you through the tests included in your chosen option.

Finish up

Ask any questions before you leave. Comprehensive testing may cause mild calf soreness the next day.

7-day activity tracking

Wear a small wrist device for a week to record your everyday movement as you go about your usual routine.

This is an optional add-on for all participants.

Interested? Ask us at your assessment and we'll go through the details with you.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

Does it cost anything?

No. Taking part is free, with no obligation to buy anything.

Is this a medical assessment?

No. It's a research and foot health assessment, not a diagnosis or treatment. If you have ongoing foot pain, we recommend seeing a podiatrist or physiotherapist.

Can I take part if my feet are sore?

We want to understand sore feet too. We'll skip any test that isn't comfortable or suitable for you.

Do I have to be sporty or active?

Not at all. We need people of all activity levels, from mostly seated to highly active.

Will I get my results?

You will get individual reports based on your essentials assessment results.

Where will assessments take place?

In person assessments (Essentials & Comprehensive) will be in Brisbane, West End 4101.

Who can I contact with questions?
