Low Muscle Tone (Hypotonia)

Low Muscle Tone (Hypotonia)

Low muscle tone or hypotonia describes a decrease in muscle tone. This may mean the muscle doesn’t have the adequate strength, tension or resistance when standing or moving and therefore can contribute to poor movement control. It is most commonly found in children.

Possible symptoms:

  • Clumsiness
  • Fall more frequently,
  • Poor posture
  • Difficulty getting up from lying or sitting positions
  • Children may be slower to hit milestones such as standing or walking

Subject to your medical professional’s advice, Sole Mechanics can support your child’s foot journey with a range of footwear solutions. A Bobux leather shoe with velcro to hold the ankle can increase safety and stability in the shoe which may prevent them from falling.
