SHIPPING AND DELIVERY COVID19 - UPDATE
Updated 18th March 2020
The COVID-19 (coronavirus) is having a significant impact on the lives of all Australians. I want to share with you everything Australia Post is doing so we can continue delivering parcels and letters, provide retail and payment services in our stores, whilst protecting the health and safety of our staff and customers in relation to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Protecting our people, customers and community
The Self Service Terminals at Post Offices will be temporarily unavailable to ensure customers and staff keep a safe distance from one another.
Further, to minimise the risk of contracting or spreading coronavirus, all parcels – be it at a post office or at a residence – will no longer require a signature for delivery or collection.
In all cases, whether a driver or postie delivers to the door or a customer goes in to their local Post Office to collect a parcel, an Australia Post staff member will ask and record the customer’s name and sign on their behalf.
The customer will still need to be present for this to occur, but contact will be minimised by either leaving the parcel at the door until the driver or postie has left the premises or left for the customer to pick up on the counter.
This is in addition to measures already introduced to protect our people, including asking customers to not visit our post offices if they are showing symptoms, and for all other customers to keep a distance of at least one metre from people, and continue to practice good hygiene.
For our corporate offices, we have been testing our employees ability to support our customers whilst working remotely and are ready to implement increased working from home practices and segregated working (such as splitting into office and home teams) should this be required.
Managing International deliveries
The impact to international logistics is also causing some delivery delays and we are working with partner airlines and other postal operators to move items as quickly as possible. You can keep across the latest information at our international updates page.
Our commitment to you
Australia Post has extensive operations across Australia which includes an extended workforce of over 80,000, over 4000 Post Offices, and 220 delivery facilities, which collectively will help us adapt to changing circumstances and continue our focus on delivering our services to customers.
As with the recent bushfires, we are committed to continuing delivery throughout our network and as any disruptions resulting from coronavirus occur, we will keep you, our customers, updated.
Australia Post has an Emergency Management program to ensure we are able to manage a range of business disruption events including bushfires, floods, security incidents, IT outages and health outbreaks such as the COVID-19 (coronavirus).
In relation to COVID-19 (coronavirus), we have a comprehensive response which includes:
• A Pandemic Coordination Team (PCT) which brings together various subject matter experts from across the business and triggers actions to manage the impact of COVID-19.
• In support of this, a Corporate Incident Response Team, comprising the Executive leadership who convene daily to ensure that we are addressing the needs of our customers and communities.
• Updated Business Continuity Plans to ensure minimal impact to our operations and our service, with dedicated teams working on this as a full-time priority.
In addition, we have implemented measures across our Executive and Senior leadership team to ensure that in the event of an absence, we have leadership continuity during this time.
We are regularly providing updated information at the Australia Post website so I encourage you to visit our website to keep across the latest information.
We are acting to ensure that we can minimise transmission now as much as possible, protecting our customers and staff, while still continuing to deliver for Australians.
We thank you for your support as we work together to ensure our people and customers continue to stay safe and healthy.
